Tonight marked the first official gig of Nick Mulvey's new band, to a packed-out audience at The Nightjar in Truro. Despite being the groups first outing together, the audience were treated to a mesmerising set of beautiful songs, some familiar to listeners of Radio 1 and some new to all.
Having recently found favour with Zane Lowe on Radio 1 and being his hottest record, Nick Mulvey has also recieved a vast amount of critical acclaim over the past weeks. Tonight it became apparent that all of this has been well deserved - in fact he deserves to be heard by audiences across the country, such is the talent on show tonight.
Playing a set made up of tracks from his upcoming debut album 'First Mind', Nick Mulvey treated the crowd to recent hits 'Fever to the Form' and 'Cucurucu', along with mass sing-a-long 'Juramidam'. Supported by a four piece band the music soared to sonic heights and dived into the most peaceful depths of Nick's incredible voice, all the while offering a rhythm and beat that the audience lapped up.
For a first concert, it's hard to imagine anything better than what was witnessed tonight. Nick Mulvey is going places, and quickly. There's already talk of the band playing some very large festivals over the summer - we can only hope he'll return to Cornwall again soon. Absolutely sublime!
