Taking songs from Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Michael Jackson and Radiohead and mixing them up into one non-stop party, Easy Star All Stars rocked the Princess Pavilion last night.
Once the crowd had been suitably warmed up by Bristol based group Laid Blak, the All Stars took to the stage to a rousing rendition of Radiohead’s Electioneering, from the classic OK Computer album. Fusing their reggae styles against Radiohead’s haunting lyrics, the band had the entire audience dancing through the whole gig.
Falmouth has seen the Easy Star All Stars several times before, but tonight saw the debut of new tracks from the bands recent album Thrillah, a tribute to Michael Jackson. Beat It and Billie Jean proved hugely popular, with a mass singalong to Thriller just before the encore.
However, the biggest sing-a-long of the night was reserved for an outstanding cover of the Beatles classic, With A Little Help From My Friends. Transformed into a reggae masterpiece, the band really fed off the audience, building to a massive jam based around the music of Pink Floyd, which featured a breathtaking trombone solo midway through!
The Easy Star All Stars have once again bought their unique musical fusion to Falmouth, turning a cold wet night outside into a loud raucous party. As the band sang during the Radiohead track Karma Police, “For a minute there, I lost myself, I lost myself.”
